Smoking for Glamour!
After attending the lecture on smoking... i started to ask myself alot of questionns in regards to smoking. One of the questions i asked myself.. is why do people smoke? and what attracts them to smoking. Been a former smoker myself i started out by asking these questions to myself, the answers i came across was pressure from friends. Many of my friends were smoking before me and i admitt i used to look and think smoking looks cool! So then i began to smoke and before i knew it i was hooked! Soon after i became addicted to smoking i did used to think that my apperance looked cool, standing there sparking up a cigarette looked cool to me. One of the reasons i thought this was because the media representation of smoking. Films like Die Hard, Pulp Fiction etc glamorizes smoking. Smoking cigarettes on and off for five years and thinkinhg i looked "cool" and the psychology of thinking that oh i've had a stressful day i need a cigarette, the hard reality of smoking hit me. On a summer day out with friends we decided to play football for old times sake the idea seemed great until we actually started to play and thats when it hit me. At a younger age i was very athetlic and had fitness but on this day i didn't even last a minute (no exaggaration) This is when i realised it wasn't worth it. The health hazards and the effects made me think i dont think my risking my health in the order to look "cool" is worth it. I put the cigarettes down and to my surprise for good. Soon after quiting smoking i also realised that it didn't look "cool"

ReplyDeleteHey, i understand where your coming from. I am happy for you,the fact that you stopped smoking after knowing the "bad health affects." Well there are many reasons as to why people smoke, many of there reasons include peer-pressure.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, many people especially younger individuals smoke to look cool. so you are correct. However, people need to start thinking about the health affects and try and seek advice, i know this is hard but can be done!
You can have a look at my blog on "smoking", as there is more information regarding this topic.
